The Nike Air Max series was kicked off by the Air Max 87 / Air Max 1 in 1987. It was the first Nike shoe with a visible Air unit, designed by Tinker Hatfield, who came back from a Paris trip and got inspired by the Centre Georges Pompidou, a building that takes all its functionality and structural elements and places it on the outside. What started as a big risk for Nike by revealing the Air-cushioned sole is now an iconic design idea that includes the AIR MAX 90, Nike Air Max 97, Air Max 95, and many more.
